Remember a while back when I made my command center? Here it is to refresh your memory.
I also kept by home binders there and it was great. Everything was in a convenient place. However, my kids are only able to color at the kitchen table so soon crayons, stencils and paper took over the spot.
The problem is the space never looked this neat. There would be paper and crayons everywhere and I would have the constant "he colored on my picture, she took my crayons" and when asked who left the crayons out they would all play the blame game.
I needed to find a better solution and I found one in the Target aisle. I got each kid a container and I filled it with a notepad, a folder to keep pictures in they drew, a crayon box and they could pick out a couple coloring books to keep in their container. I then added their picture to the front of the container so they would know which one is theirs. I also put the rest of the coloring books in a spare container that I had.
Now the problem with this was the clipboards with my menu, to do list and shopping list were covered with the bins so I decided to move them and put them somewhere else. I added the menu list, the shopping list and my coupon holder to the kitchen.
I hung up a cork board for my calendar, a note pad, and a zippered pouch to hold a pen and my post-it notes for the calendar.
So my command center has become an art center.
The buckets have actually been great. They use their buckets and then put it away when they are done. Plus, now I know who doesn't put their bucket away and they can't blame it on someone else. Also, we don't have one kid drawing on someone else's drawing.
But wait...there is more! I was staring at the cork board the other day and realized it needed to be prettier. The office look didn't look that great in the dinning area. Then I saw this fabric covered cork board at Two Twenty One and knew I had to do that too.
I gathered all the supplies...fabric, spray adhesive, scissors tacks, cork board and a glue gun (not pictured).

I used the spray adhesive to attach the fabric to the front of the board, then used the glue gun to attached the fabric to the back of the board.
Once the fabric was on it was time to put the tacks in. Now I didn't get the tacks straight. I tried using a ruler, but still had a hard time. After trying for a while, I gave up and just put them in as best I could.
Here is the finished product. Isn't it pretty!
I added a calendar, note pad, my weekly to-do list and a container to hold the stickers for the kids chore charts, post-it notes, and pens.
I laminated my weekly to-do list so I could check things off with a dry erase marker and use it week after week. This list has all the normal things I do each week...laundry, cleaning, up-dating budget, making bread, etc. Anything out of the ordinary is written directly to the calendar.
Harriet approves!
I will be linking this post up with bobbi for Making it Count Tuesday (yes, I know it is Friday) and with Ana for Valentine's Day Cabin Fever Creativity Link-Up.
I love this!! Covering cork boards is one of my favorite past times, and I love that fabric!
